IFCM’s Screenwriters lab is a three month program that takes place on the first and third Tuesday of each month and is designed to assist screenwriters to discover their voice, improve their craft in screenwriting and enable them to complete their scripts. During the lab, the screenwriters are mentored and coached by the Miami Dade instructor Rolando Viñas, as well as receiving feedback from their fellow writers.

•  8 Meet-up Sessions (each session two hours in length)

•  Learn how to brainstorm ideas and concepts, develop characters, create character arcs, structure your story and format your screenplay.

• One (1) script reading. Reading will be performed by actors approved by IFCM from scripts no longer than 30 pages in length.

• For those who already have a script, use the course to make improvements.

Staring on June 1st, our new office, located at O Cinema (90 NW 29th, Maimi, FL, 33127) will have regular hours to assit you. Our hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10AM – 7PM. Edwards James Olmos is in Miami for the South Florida premiere of Filly Brown.  The opening film for the Hispanicize Festival was a collaboration with the Miami International Film Festival.  In it, “Majo” Tonorio, aka Filly Brown (Gina Rodríguez), a Mexican-American hip-hop prodigy from Los Angeles, percolates with the raw energy of hope sprung from desperation and is recruited by a shady producer who offers her a crack at rap stardom. The late Jenni Rivera plays the part of Majo’s mother María, who is locked up in jail for drug trafficking. Lou Diamond Philips is the father who takes care of  Majo and her younger sister. This is a drama where family  has the power to destroy and ultimately save. The film is a co-directorial work of Yussef Delara and Michael D’ Olmos.  The acting in the film is solid. Gina’s talent is very exciting and she has a bright future, no doubt.

Watching Mr. Olmos in the role of family lawyer Leonardo made me want to re-watch every film he has ever been in. For me his talent is par Marlon Brando’s and Robert De Niro’s, so when I got a chance to interview him, I had so many questions I wanted to ask.

Our collaboration with the Latin indie pop duo HOLA*HI, the video for “Me Haces Volar/Your Make Me Fly” is receiving such great acclaim and a rising following on YouTube.   Indie Film Club Miami and HOLA*HI worked on the magic realism concept which is not only a  metaphor for the creative process, but also the possibilities of inspiration.   Diliana Alexander directed the project and the rest of the IFCM collective produced and crewed it up.  The incredibly rewarding creative experience translated into  this awesome video:

Congratulations to HOLA*HI for landing a highly coveted placement with department store Target, who is using the band’s single “Aire de Primavera” in their nationwide spring campaign, showing currently on Telemundo and Univision. An excellent achievement for an independent band formed by this pair of talented musicians.

Basically, he showed us all that gorgeous images are possible on a pretty low budget. We all rushed to buy a Canon 7D or even better 5D, then visited his website religiously, along with over a million other fans, hungry for the next free video tutorial.

For the past few years he’s become a leading figure in the low budget digital film making world with his pioneering work using DSLRs and affordable large sensor camcorders. He also runs his website which educates and informs film makers of all levels around the world with visitors in excess of 1.25 million a month. He splits his time between shooting and directing projects and teaching globally. We are happy to release HOME, our new music video for Miami indie rocker Fernando Perdomo

The legendary indie rock icon Rickie Lee Jones shared our video recently and was very generous with her accolades: “OK, I got the share this. It’s a beautiful song, uplifting message, great production and video.”

This was a small production, very low budget, but we managed to produce something very personal and special, that speaks to many in Florida, who have or been in danger of loosing their homes. Most importantly, the artist loved it.
